Dear Parents,
Term One has been an incredibly busy three months with all our international visitors, Parent Help Day, the Big Walk fundraiser, Global Recycling Day in March, and our upcoming end-of-term outings.
The Grade R children have been focusing on letter and number formation, sound recognition, numerals, and pre-literacy skills through our School Readiness Programme. The Montessori materials are extremely beneficial in assisting the children with hands-on learning, rather than the more abstract methods often used in many mainstream schools.
A reminder that all children born in 2021, who will be enrolling for Grade R at The Village Eco-Preschool in 2027, must complete their registration form and return it to their class teacher.
Failure to do so may jeopardise your child’s position at the school for next year.
School closes on Friday, 27 March at 11:00am. There will be no aftercare on the last day of school.
We resume for Term 2 on Tuesday, 14 April.

Autumn Music Evening
Our Autumn Music Concert Fundraiser will take place in Term 2.
This will be an evening event, giving parents the opportunity to enjoy a night out together. We encourage parents to arrange babysitters and enjoy the evening.
We are currently looking for local musicians to perform as supporting acts, as well as a fabulous South African band or musician to invite as our guest artist.

TERM ONE NEWS
Parent Meet & Greet Work Day
Thank you to all our parents and children who contributed and helped on our Annual Parent Help Day. It was a wonderful example of how many hands make light work.
So many jobs were completed, monkey house roof was repaired, the old teepee fabric has been removed ready for an upgrade, mosaic numbers on the hopscotch, sand pits filled, new gates up, magic tree playground created, books and dolls were mended, hooks were put up, the wood chips were replaced, tables and benches weresanded and varnished….the list goes on.
A huge thank you to everyone for your hard work and contribution. Our school is truly one of the most loved little schools in town!
International Visitors
In true spirit of inclusion we open our doors to children from all over the world. This year we welcomed visitors from, France, Australia, Italy, Russia, England, Ireland, Netherlands, Germany and Sweden. This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to learn new languages and connect with children from all over the world.
International Wetlands Day 2026
In support of International Wetlands Day, our two preschool classes went on a special outing to the Keurbooms Estuary.
While the children hiked, discovered, explored, ran, laughed, played, and even danced in the rain, they learned about the importance of wetlands and the incredible plants and creatures that live in and around these ecosystems.
The outing helped create awareness about the importance of conserving our wetlands.
A big thank you to all the parents who assisted with transport. Outings like these form an important part of our Environmental Education Curriculum and Montessori Cosmic Education.

Ha-Man Music Extravaganza
As part of our cultural and arts education programme, the children experienced the magic of Ha-Man, his fascinating musical instruments, and his interactive performance.
“Music and movement are powerful tools in early childhood development. Through rhythm, song, and dance, children strengthen their coordination, creativity, language development, and emotional expression. Musical experiences also nurture confidence, listening skills, and joy in learning.”
Maria Montessori once said:
“Music can name the unnameable and communicate the unknowable.”

Bursary Scheme 2026
We currently have seven children benefiting from our Bursary Scheme. The total amount needed to support these learners for 2026 is R189 600.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the parents and supporters who continue to contribute to this important fund through our weekly tuck shop, fundraising events, and generous donations.
Each R8 tuck shop contribution made on Fridays goes directly towards the bursary fund, so a huge thank you to the parents who remember to send tuck money with their children each week. Every contribution truly makes a difference

The Big Walk • Nature’s Valley
We would like to say a huge thank you to all the children, parents, families, and friends who supported our Big Walk Fundraiser at Nature’s Valley.
It turned out to be a beautiful day on the lagoon where the children could enjoy time together — swimming, playing, and exploring nature — while parents had the opportunity to relax and truly enjoy one another’s company.
And of course, everyone could appreciate what is probably one of the best views imaginable! We are incredibly grateful to have shared such a special day with our school community.
Congratulations to Ralph Mudge for finding the special natural object and winning the Ice Palazzo voucher.
Congratulations as well to Gabriella, Boe, Athena, Isla, Margaux, and Olivia, who won the Blue Rock Restaurant voucher for their sandcastle creation.
Together we raised R16 325.00 towards our school bursary fund.

Global Recycling Day
On 18 March 2018, Global Recycling Day was established to help raise awareness about the importance of recycling and the impact of waste on our planet.
Every year on 18 March, people around the world take action to promote recycling and environmental responsibility.
To celebrate this day, the children of The Village Eco-Preschool made hats and musical instruments from recycled materials. They then paraded their creations in a mini plastic waste protest, marching around the Old Nick Village Market with placards to raise awareness among the market visitors and stallholders.

CPR and FIRST AID TRAINING
Thank you to Vicky Lidziya for attending the Best Care First Aid Training Course in February. We regulary send staff on training to keep their first aid skills up to date. Topics covered were;
Child and Infant CPR, Choking, Drowning, Electrocution, Use of an AED, First Aid for children and phoning emergency services. Thanks to Jayde Ryan for organising the first Aid course to take
place at our school.

Thank you to Grace, Louie, Summer, Boe, and Isla for celebrating their birthdays by donating beautiful books to the school.
