Toddler class
The bright and sunny toddler classrooms are specially designed for children between the ages of 21 months to 3 years. Here, the children play with materials developed for fine and gross motor coordination. They learn self-care and toilet training and acquire a set of concrete life skills and self-confidence which helps to develop the belief that they can choose to make a positive impact on their world.
The calm atmosphere and lack of distraction help to develop impulse control and concentration, planting the seeds for learning in this classroom and beyond. The program incorporates working with age-appropriate materials, song, dance, music, and art. The daily routine allows for ample time outside in the beautiful gardens, with a toddler-sized jungle gym and play area where children can enjoy lots of sensory-rich play in the mud kitchen and sand pit.
Preschool class
The Preschool classrooms are well equipped, challenging, and diverse prepared environments. The space provides children between the ages of 3 to 6 years an opportunity to nurture their individual development within the context of a group setting. The result is self-confidence, joy, and a lifelong love for learning.
Both classes offer a comprehensive Grade R as well as a Grade RR curriculum. The curriculum is individualized, allowing the child to work at their own pace while participating in a mixed-age classroom. The younger children learn by observing the behaviour and activities of the older children. The older children gain self-confidence, leadership skills, and responsibility by setting an example for their younger peers.
The program offers a variety of enrichment activities such as art, dance & music, isiXhosa, ball skills & gross motor development, and environmental education. The daily routine includes the work cycle, group circle, outside play, snack, story, and fruit share.
Aftercare
Available Mondays – Fridays from 12:30 – 4:30
The aftercare program includes a 30-minute “rest” or nap time. Children can also participate in outside play, reading, drawing, colouring, and playing with puzzles, blocks, and lego.
Afternoon activities
Extra afternoon murals such as yoga, dance & drama, nature-club, arts & crafts, and science & gardening are available from Mondays – Thursdays.
Nature club (from 3yrs)
Mondays 12:45 – 2:15
Nature club keeps children in touch with nature through active, fun ecological education within the surrounding natural environment. Plettenberg Bay, with 7 unique ecosystems and Robberg and Keurbooms nature reserves right on our doorstep, provides the ideal environment to facilitate adventurous excursions to promote the importance of nature conservation whilst encouraging healthy physical development.
Each week children go to a different venue: beach, forest, wetland, lagoon, etc. Children are transported in the teacher’s vehicle and parents collect the children from the venue. Children attending the aftercare program will be transported back to school in the teacher’s vehicle. The club can accommodate a maximum of 9 children.
Movement club (from 3yrs)
Incorporates dance, drama, music & yoga ~ Tuesdays 1:15 – 2:00
Creative movement, dance, and drama are powerful imaginative tools that we use to help children explore, form a positive image of themselves and build healthy self-identities. It also serves as a wonderful way for the little ones to work on their self-awareness and self-esteem while being physically active.
Yoga is taught by telling an interactive adventurous story. The children engage with their imagination and creativity while having fun and being playful. The classes follow the same structure each week, opening the class with stillness and breathing followed by an adventure story where the children move through various postures. The class closes with relaxation, visualization, soothing music, and a coming together to share positive affirmations.
Art club (3-6yr)
Wednesdays 1:15 – 2:00
At Art Club, children are introduced to the world of art through basic art techniques and they learn what it means to be creative. The art lessons are kept interesting and provide an environment where children get to experiment with a variety of mixed mediums that encourage the children to explore their creativity in different ways.
Lessons consist of:
- Cutting and pasting
- Primary and secondary colours (painting and/or collage)
- Free expression
- Form-based art (ceramics)
- Mixing paint and experimenting with textures
- Drawing & rendering with oil pastel, crayon or chalk
- Creating art with shapes
Moms & Tots Playgroup (21 months -2,6yr)
Every Wednesday 9:30am – 10:30am – FREE OF CHARGE
The Moms Baby & Toddler playgroup is offered to children aged 21 months to 2,6 yrs.
This group has been set up for children to get accustomed to playing in a group setting with the security and comfort of having a parent or caregiver at their side. We encourage parents, who struggle with the idea of separating from their children, to attend our Moms and Tots group for a few sessions before enrolling their children in the toddler group.
This weekly 60 minute session takes place in an intimate and nurturing environment where mothers or caregivers and their young children engage in a range of carefully designed play-based activities. The visiting tots are given the opportunity to interact with and play alongside the other toddlers on the playground and in their classroom.
The small group is guided by an experienced Montessori Preschool teacher who understands the development of young children.
Sport & science club (from 3yrs)
Thursdays 1:15 – 2:00
The aim of Sports Club is to introduce young children to constructive and enjoyable sport participation. Our focus is on participation within a group and teaching children in a friendly, caring, and supportive environment through carefully structured lessons. Your child is given the opportunity to practice basic skills, such as balance, body control, bat and ball skills, and hand, foot, and eye coordination, which will develop their confidence to continue the exciting journey into sport participation and tackle more advanced sport skills when they move up to the primary school level.
The aim of Science Club is to provide hands-on learning experiences that stimulate children’s curiosity and motivate them to become interested in their environment and the mechanisms of nature. Children love physical exploration – the messier the better. Activities include simple science experiments and gardening. Children love the wonder of nature and have fun getting involved in these exciting indoor and outdoor activities.
